the fun begins! (painting “adams lane” day 1)

ADAMS LANE • 24 inches x 36 inches • in progress

Here's my drawing. If you saw my post from last week, you'll remember that this was no small accomplishment!

Here's the paint I mixed up for the sky.

Blue paint! Let the fun begin...

Some nice thick lines of white will turn into wispy clouds.

I use several shades of blues.

And some yellow.

I paint around all the trees and then blend it all together. The tricky part is to not let the colors get muddy. I use a LOT of brushes to help keep the colors pure and clean.

Here's the start of the woods. I decided to add more blue in the areas of the tall trees, in case I wanted the sky to show through.

The woods and some fields are starting to take shape.

Now the hard part: painting the house. Click on this picture a and you see the reference photos I had to work with. The house was just about the least visible part of my photo. But since this painting is supposed to depict Ron's family farm, I feel like the house really needs to be a strong element of the piece.

I’m happy to report that I have successfully completed the third of my three commissioned paintings for my client from Travelers Rest, SC named Ron.

I put the finishing touches on this painting at the end of the day on Friday, and I’m really pleased with how it turned out. It turned into a vibrant and colorful painting which I hope captures the spirit of his family farm.

You can watch my blog this week to see the entire painting from start to finish…
